I’m excited to announce that I’m going to be running some welding workshops, this is your chance to come to the Urchfab HQ, located near Axminster in Devon, and pick up some new skills.

The welding workshops available are…
Introduction To Welding Course (9am – 4pm) – suitable for beginners with no prior experience. Maximum of 2 people. This course will cover everything you need to get you started on your welding journey including selection of equipment and PPE, basic machine set-up, material selection and preparation, hands on practical techniques for both MIG and TIG (we can also include arc welding if there is demand on the day). Every student will assemble an Urchfab dice kit which they will be able to take home as a souvenir. By the end of this course you will have the info and skills to buy a welder, set it up and get started.
MIG or TIG Specific Courses (9am – 4pm) – suitable for those of you who have some welding experience but are looking to up your game. Maximum of 2 people. These courses will cover advanced machine settings, different gases and their applications, practical techniques and tips for different joints and positions, practical techniques and tips for different material types and thicknesses including mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. Plus a troubleshooting guide. Every student will assemble an Urchfab dice kit which they will be able to take home as a souvenir.
Half day 1-2-1 Courses (9am – 12.30pm / 1.30pm – 5pm / 5.30pm – 9pm) – This course will be personalised to your requirements and is the perfect chance to work on your weaknesses. You can even bring your own machine for help with set up. You will be sent a form with some questions beforehand so Matt can plan your session accordingly.
The course cost is £250 per person.
If you would like to book onto a welding workshop then please email us at urchfabbookings@gmail.com and we will send you the available dates and a booking form. You will then receive an invoice which will need to be paid within 24 hours to secure your place on the course.
WARNING: The process of welding produces flashing lights and may not be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy. There are also some types of pacemakers that can be affected by the magnetic fields of welding so please check with your doctor before attending.

Cancellations policy
If you need to cancel or reschedule one of our welding workshops then this must be done at least 14 days prior to your course date. Cancellations made with less than 2 weeks notice are non refundable.
What to wear
Please make sure you are wearing full length denim jeans or heavy duty, non flammable trousers AND leather boots.
Where to stay?
We have had a few messages from people who are travelling from further away and wanting to stay somewhere locally. Urchfab HQ is in a great location, situated just 10 minutes away from the Dorset coastline, so I would suggest staying in either Lyme Regis or Charmouth as they both have lovely beaches.
I have had family stay at Hensleigh House in Charmouth before and they had great things to say about it. If not then Air B&B have some absolutely amazing places to choose from. You could even look at some local caravan parks and make a family holiday out of your trip down here. Newland’s Holiday Park has a great swimming pool and park area for kids.
We have also had a recommendation from someone who came down and stayed at a hotel just down the road called The Fairwater Head Hotel so if you want somewhere really close by then this could be a great option.
What to bring
Please bring a packed lunch and drink with you as there isn’t anywhere to buy anything nearby. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
Health and Safety
You will be provided with everything you need to weld safely including safety glasses, an air fed welding mask, gloves and a welding jacket. Matt will run a quick safety briefing at the start of the day and you will be given a waiver to sign.
